| RULES |
| - The essay must be between 600 and 1200
words in length |
| - The essay must be type written, double
spaced in 12 pt. type or larger. |
| - A bibliography in standard style is
required. |
| - The essay must be solely the work of the
student, and the student must submit the signed and dated pledge on
the information sheet that is to be turned in with the essay that
the work is solely the student’s work. |
| - All entries become the property of Fort
Sumter Camp. |
- All entries must be submitted by April
1, 2011.
- The Entry Submittal Form is to accompany the
essay.

| CRITERIA FOR AWARD |
| - A committee composed of members of the
Fort Sumter Camp, including current and/or retired college
professors, will review and rank the essays that are timely
submitted. The chief criteria are: |
| - The quality of scholarship and research |
| - The use of correct grammar and spelling |
| - The originality of the work on the
subject chosen |
| - The use of primary sources of material
for research |
